When do you open a mailed birthday card?

I got a card-shaped envelope in the mail today, but my birthday isn't until Wednesday. Am I supposed to open it now, or wait?

When do you open a mailed birthday card?
Some people save them up and open them on their birthday. Others open them as soon as they receive them, put them on display somewhere and enjoy them for several days. You can do whatever makes you happy.


And since I won't be able to do so on Wednesday, I'll wish you a happy birthday now!

Reply:Do whatever the person that sent it to you would want you to do, or be okay with you doing. You'll feel better about it and you never know, they might asked when you opened it. Better safe than sorry.

Reply:Unless you're having a party and expecting that the person will be there, in which case you would wait to open it in front of that person, then go ahead and open the card now. If you're having a party and expecting to open things there, and the person who sent it is likely to be there, then you should bring it with you and wait to open it, so that the person won't be embarassed by the appearance that they didn't recognize your birthday.
