Do you keep a collection of birthday/valentine cards that your loved one has given you over the years?

Yes....since 1969. Also, all the letters my wife wrote me since we've been married. Since I was in the Navy and gone from time to time, we wrote LETTERS ON PAPER. I was gone 2 months to Japan before she came over, 13 months to Antarctica, 12 months to the Middle East, 6 months to the Indian ocean and 6 months to the Mediterranean.

I think it's sad that folks seem to only write emails to their men overseas now. No letters tucked in the back of the closet in a shoe box or tied with some string to be found years from now by their kids. From time to time my wife and I clear things from the closet and sit on the floor reading some of the letters from each other. We got married in 1969, and I retired in 1985 (after my last cruise to the Mediterranean).

Some how E-mails just don't seem the same as a letter written by your lover's hand. I remember my mom having kept letters from my father when he was in Germany in WW2. They were in Finn (my parents came from Finland) and since I didn't learn much Finn, she had to translate them for me when I was a boy years later. Unfortunately, some time along the line (years after they were divorced) she seems to have thrown them away.

I've kept every single card and letter my husband ever gave me (since 1968). I have also kept all of the cards and notes from my daughter. I have little tiny notes she wrote me when she was little that have never left my wallet. They're pretty ragged now. Just can't throw away the sentimental things that have touched my heart. When my Mom passed away in 2001, we found all of the cards that the 5 kids had given her through the years. I guess I just come from a sentimental family!
Reply:I am very sentimental and I saved most from different boy friends, I've been going through them and throwing them away. I try to keep one for memories. 3 of my closest boyfriends are now dead and it's nice to look at them at times.I f I should ever get married again ( which I seriously doubt) I will destroy all of them.
Reply:I have a few.My nephew sent me a Christmas card in 05.he signed from your nephew that is far away.I was in Ca. and he was in La.he passed away in March 06.In the card a picture of him smiling as he was walking thru a door was in it.Now I know he is far away on the other side and doing well.....
Reply:I have kept only a "select" few as years of getting cards (my brother who passed away years ago and my mother and son, etc.) can accumulate. I tell them to just say it verbally to me and save their money. They don't listen.
Reply:Over the years I've stuck them in books and drawers and boxes. It's great to run across one as I'm looking for something to read, or sorting through a drawer or box for a lost object.
Reply:I had to run away from my house due to domestic abuse leaving almost everything behind. I was a third generation "pack rat".
Reply:Yes, I do because I'm a very sentimental person. I will treasure them always. ♥
Reply:Yes, I keep everything.
